David De La Flor, an associate at Lalchandani Simon PL, focuses his practice in the areas of intellectual property and technology law. He counsels clients in various industries, including technology, social media, data security, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, finance, banking, accounting, real estate, hospitality, marketing and advertising.

De La Flor joined the firm after leaving his position as an associate at Bilzin Sumberg Baena Price & Axelrod LLP, a top commercial law firm, where he focused his practice on complex commercial litigation, including business torts, landlord-tenant disputes, land use litigation, antitrust actions, contractual disputes, fraud claims, professional malpractice actions, real estate-related disputes, and products liability matters. De La Flor represented clients in a variety of industries, including manufacturing and distribution, technology, and retail. Additionally, he was a frequent contributor to the firm’s popular New Miami Blog, often writing on issues related to South Florida’s emerging technology startup community.

De La Flor graduated from the University of California-Berkeley School of Law with a certificate of specialization in international law.  He was an Articles Editor for Berkeley La Raza Law Journal, a student-run law journal focused on shedding light and analyzing legal issues affecting the Latino community.  He was also a member of the International Human Rights Clinic, where he explored issues surrounding effective representation of affected communities bringing complaints against development projects funded by international financial institutions, such as the World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank.

While attending Berkeley Law, De La Flor interned with the Department of Labor’s Employee Benefits Security Administration, where he investigated 401K plan sponsors, fiduciaries, and trustees.  He also interned with International Rights Advocates at its Quito, Ecuador office, where he helped represent clients bringing claims against a large multinational U.S. government contractor under the Alien Tort Claims Act.

De La FLor attended the University of Florida for his undergraduate studies where he obtained a B.S.B.A. with a concentration in Economics.  He also spent time studying and completing coursework at the Universidade Catolica do Rio de Janeiro in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.  After graduating, De La Flor worked for a large, prominent bank as a banker, holding his Series 7 and Series 63 securities licenses.

Recognizing the importance of giving back to the community as a legal practitioner, De La Flor has participated in pro-bono matters as an attorney ad litem for Lawyers for Children.  Prior to going to law school, he also volunteered at Miami Children’s Hospital’s Radio Lollipop program.

De La Flor is fluent in Spanish, and has a working knowledge of Portuguese.
